Elliot is an associate attorney at Pemberton Law’s Detroit Lakes office. He grew up in the Dent and Perham area. He graduated with honors from the Alexandria Technical and Community College with an Associate of Applied Sciences degree in Law Enforcement and, as his first career, served as a police officer for the cities of Perham and New York Mills. During much of this time, Elliot also volunteered as an Emergency Medical Responder for Dent Fire & Rescue.
While continuing to serve as a police officer, Elliot attended Minnesota State University Moorhead where he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He then attended and graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law where he was an associate editor for the North Dakota Law Review, president of the Criminal Law Association, and an active member of both the Student Trial Lawyers Association and the Federalist Society.
As a law student, Elliot externed for the United State’s Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota, assisting the United States in civil defense matters and the prosecution of a wide range of criminal matters. In addition, he interned with the Grand Forks County State’s Attorney’s Office in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where he assisted prosecuting state crimes and traffic offenses.
Elliot is a member of the firm’s Estate Planning, Real Estate, and Corporate Law groups, and is licensed to practice law in Minnesota and North Dakota state courts as well as the federal courts in Minnesota. Elliot is an experienced transactional attorney dedicated to providing comprehensive legal services in the areas of estate planning, real estate, and corporate law.
With a practical and detail-oriented approach, he assists clients in navigating complex transactions, including residential and commercial property acquisitions and sales, business entity formations (startups) and reorganizations, and asset protection strategies. Elliot works closely with individuals, families and business owners to ensure their legal documents are tailored to meet their unique goals and long-term objectives. His estate planning practice focuses on drafting wills, trusts, health care directives, powers of attorney, and transfer on death or life estate deeds, to help clients safeguard their legacy, plan for incapacity, and minimize future legal complications.
Elliot is an active member of the Becker and Otter Tail County Bar Associations, the Detroit Lakes Breakfast Rotary Club, and the Perham Knights of Columbus. Aside from work, Elliot enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, and generally being outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, running, or cross-country skiing.
